Friends in the Age of Facebook

So, Jedi has acquired this… friend.

This friend is fine enough. It’s just… something’s a little off.

And cute, sure. I mean, his friend, he has plump red lips, black beady eyes, yellow skin… wings.

It’s a duck, alright. My son has formed an attachment to a rubber ducky.

It started a few nights ago when it was accidentally left in his bed. When he awoke the next morning, he told me all about how ducky had kept him safe all night. How it was watching him play games on the IPhone before he went to sleep. How this duck, it had accepted his friend request.

His FRIEND REQUEST.

Which, of course, only means one thing. Well, maybe two things: OMG BFF! And, my son might possibly need to lay off the computer games a little.

I can just imagine the fun we’ll have once he’s old enough to discover Facebook.

Jedi now carries this duck around with him. He talks to it. He sits with it in his lap. He has to have it with him when he goes to bed, to sleep in his pillow. I’m sure it’s just a passing quirk, something that he’ll stop by next week? Maybe? I mean, this is normal, right? Oh hell, who even knows anymore.

    Hilarious!!!

    His friend request…

I’m sure he’ll UNfriend him at some point. Then the duck will feel slighted and wonder if his status updates were annoying.

That’s hilarious! Funny how kids pick up on the technical terminology ;)
