Purchasing birthday or holiday gifts for those closest to us can be more stressful than can be anticipated. Everyone has their own likes and opinions, and some of us can be rather picky in our preferences. This is not only true of adults, but also kids. Our children, with their uncensored brutal honesty, can be the biggest critics of all when it comes to what they unwrap.
With family, though, and so many holidays to celebrate, along with 3 kids and our many birthdays over the years, I’ve learned to let go and not worry so much. Mostly because of the following 3 rules:
Lists are great, for both remembering and organizing. Number everyone you have to buy for and the very first thing that comes to mind when you think of that person. If you draw a blank, consider their hobbies or what they collect. I also like to keep a running list throughout the year of what I hear those closest to me, especially my kids, say they want.
Places where you can buy everything for everyone save you time as well as sanity. Where you can purchase your aunt’s favorite towels along with toys for kids. Catalog sites like LTD Commodities sell top-of-the-line products from such brands as Disney and Marvel at discounted prices. Personally, I love the ease of shopping online and try to get as much done from the comfort of my office chair as possible.
When it comes down to it, it really is the thought that counts. Try not to stress and just have fun. It’s not the end of the world, especially when your heart is in the right place. If your kids don’t like what they received at first, chances are they will once they give it a chance. But if nothing else, keep the receipt. You can always take it back.
