It’s hard to go a day without eating at least one slice of bread. With sandwiches, french toast, cinnamon toast, grilled cheese, and the list goes on. There are so many ways my kids and I use bread on a daily basis.
But are we eating the best bread there is?
We were recently encouraged to swap out our regular loaves of bread for the new Brownberry® Healthfull® Bread. Give it just one week, they said, and you’ll be won over.
They were right. We picked up the 3 varieties of the new Brownberry® Healthfull® Bread: Flax & Sunflower, Steel Cut Oats & Honey, and Nuts & Seeds. We then proceeded to use these breads instead of our usual for everything from a slice covered in a chocolate spread for a snack to Cheesy Eggs in a Basket.
There was also grilled cheese, because you can’t have bread around without grilled cheese. My favorite kind of grilled cheese is with pepperjack cheese, tomato and guacamole. For these, however, I left off the guacamole and used the Flax & Sunflower Brownberry® Healthfull® Bread for a delicious light lunch.
I also made Cheesy Eggs in a Basket. For this simple breakfast/lunch/brunch recipe, cut a hole out of the middle of your bread, I used Steel Cut Oats & Honey for a touch of sweetness. Melt some butter in a skillet and place your bread. Scramble up an egg and pour it in the hole as carefully as you can. Add cheese. Diced ham would be great in this, too! Once the bottom side is toasty and the egg is set, flip it over and do the same on that side.
- 1 slice Brownberry® Healthfull® Bread Steel Cut Oats & Honey
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp shredded cheese
- 1 tbsp butter
- salt & pepper
- ham or bacon (optional)
- Take a circle cutter and cut hole out of center of bread.
- Melt butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
- While that's melting, beat an egg in a small bowl and stir in cheese as well as pre-cooked ham or bacon (optional).
- Place your bread in the melted butter. Carefully pour egg into hole. Salt and pepper first side to taste.
- Flip to other side once egg is set and bottom of bread is toasted. Salt and pepper again to taste.
- Serve hot.
