We have always had pets in our family. In fact, growing up I had a whole menagerie. There were iguanas, guinea pigs, hamsters, turtles, dogs, and many, many cats. My dad didn’t like cats, so we never had one inside. But I was definitely one that would feed anything stray that happened to come around.
As such, a home isn’t a home without our pets. And our home wouldn’t be the same without our BC, which is short for Bobby Chance. She has such a fun, mischievous personality that fills a room. If you leave anything on a table, she will do her best to knock it off so she can bat it around the room. She also isn’t afraid to let you know her opinion on things. She’s a big part of our family and I want to treat her to a happy holiday season.
This holiday season, MARS Pet and Walmart want to invite you to explore and share your pet’s holiday personality and reward them with a fun experience, special offers, and tasty pet treats.
My cat loves Temptations® Cat Treats, and while at Walmart we made sure to pick up a pack of Temptations® Classics Tantalizing Turkey Flavor Cat Care & Treats in a 6.3 oz bag as well as the Temptations® Snacky Mouse. Filled with treats, she won’t get it in trouble for batting around this plump little mouse, but will instead be rewarded.
Also at Walmart, we grabbed a 4.9 oz bag of Temptations® Classics Hairball Control along with a 6.3 oz bag of Temptations® Classics Creamy Dairy Flavor Cat Care & Treats. All those treats will be sure to make it a happy holiday season and make great pet stocking stuffers!
But my cat, my sweet BC, she likes to make what we call “cat soup”. This is where she spills her water bowl into her food bowl, not only turning her bowl of food into a soggy mess but also forming puddles on the floor. I told you she was mischievous. A little naughty? Maybe. She’s my girl, though.
To get her back on the nice list, and to give her a clean, dry area to eat her Temptations® Cat Treats this holiday season, I wanted to make a fun water resistant and non-slip DIY Holiday Cat Placemat for her food bowls.
For this DIY Holiday Cat Placemat, you’ll need a regular cheap plastic placemat with non-slip texture on the bottom. You’ll also need clear as well as white contact paper, holiday wrapping paper, a cat stencil, black paint, and Mod Podge.
- plastic placemat
- white matte contact paper
- clear contact paper
- holiday wrapping paper
- cat stencil
- black acrylic paint
- Mod Podge
- black marker (optional)
First, cut a sheet of white contact paper just slightly larger than your placemat. Lay the placemat top side down on the contact paper, and gently peel and remove the backing while using your fingers to push out as many bubbles from the contact paper as you can.
Trim the excess contact paper from around the placemat.
Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the top of the contact paper-covered placemat. Lay the placemat down on the wrapping paper, affixing the wrapping paper to the Mod Podge. Flatten and push out any bubbles. Trim excess. Apply more Mod Podge around edges if needed to make sure it’s secure.
Lay the cat stencil in the corner of the placemat. Begin tapping black paint around the stencil until it’s filled in. Remove stencil and let dry. Once dry, the stencil left a few white areas behind. I simply took a black sharpie and carefully filled those in.
Finally, cut a sheet of clear contact paper, Again, lay the placemat top side down on the contact paper, and gently peel and remove the backing while pushing out as many bubbles from the contact paper as you can. Trim excess.
Is your cat naughty or nice? If they’re nice, they deserve a special treat. If they’re naughty, maybe a treat would make them nicer. Either way, our DIY Holiday Cat Placemat along with Temptations® Cat Treats are sure to get them in the holiday spirit!
