When you welcome a cat into your home, as we did with our BC, there are a few things you just need to come to terms with. First, your cat will undoubtedly rule the house. You will have cat toys all over the floor, even though that cat will probably prefer to play with a hair tie, the pencil you’re holding, or a wadded up piece of paper. It may be moody and slightly cranky at times, but it will also be the funniest, most amazing 4-legged creature that you could love. It may even love you back.
You will also need to come to terms with the cat box. But while cats are complicated, your cat litter doesn’t need to be. While at Walmart, we picked up Cat’s Pride® Fresh & Light Ultimate Care® Hypoallergenic Unscented Multi-Cat Scoop Litter to make everyone happy. Cat’s Pride® is also proud to partner with and support the American Humane Association as well as the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation™ to help end the needless suffering of animals. And there’s a coupon!
With low dust and the strongest clumps, Cat’s Pride® has over 50 years of experience and expertise in creating cat litter. In new packaging that’s now over 50% lighter at 10 lbs (†See packaging for details) and with over 10 days of odor control and powerful absorption (*Based on laboratory testing, when used as directed), Cat’s Pride® Fresh & Light Ultimate Care® makes it easy to come to terms with your cat box. Even our cat agrees.
When it comes to life with cats, another thing you may have to come to terms with is that they will choose their person. No amount of pleading and begging and bribing with cat treats will get that cat to change their mind. Because cats are stubborn. And the person our cat chose is my daughter. They are best friends and always have been.
So instead of fighting it any longer, I wanted to celebrate their friendship by making a custom Best Friends DIY Personalized Glass Etched Family Pet Frame using my favorite picture of the two of them together. I just needed a 2-4×6 collage picture frame, some glass etching cream, letters and stickers, painters tape, and a paintbrush.
That means I had to get out my craft supplies. Our BC possibly loves craft time more than I do. Her face lights up as she notices my box of craft supplies. Then she’ll dig her way through it all, knocking cotton balls, ribbon, and whatever else she can onto the floor to bat around the room. Every single time. It’s yet another thing you’ll have to come to terms with.
“Oh, this bag? Do you need this bag? Because I think I’ll sleep in it.”
And she’ll sit right on top of what I’m working on. It’s a good thing I love her. Even if she may not love me back.
- 2-4×6 collage picture frame
- glass etching cream
- letter and cat stickers
- painters tape
- paper for backing
First, remove the glass from your picture frame and mark off a rectangle in the center with painter’s tape.
Arrange letters and stickers as desired.
Carefully apply a coat of etching cream with your brush and let sit according to package directions. When done, rinse thoroughly and wipe clean.
Return glass to frame and add colored paper of your choice behind. For ours, I alternated purple and white.
Add a favorite photo, and you have a really simple way to honor your cat as a part of the family and show the love. Even if they may not love you back.
How do you show off the love for your cat?
