We may still have snow on the ground around these parts, but spring will be here before you know it. And with it, comes showers and rainbows. Why not get a head start with our simple and colorful Felt Rainbow Sewing Craft?
It’s a fun beginner’s sewing craft, a wonderful way to learn about the colors of the rainbow, and our Stuffed Cloud Felt Rainbow Sewing Craft is also a great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day when it’s going to be all about green, leprechauns, and rainbows!
For this Felt Rainbow Sewing Craft you need felt in the colors of the rainbow plus white, as well as a needle and thread, scissors, and some foam to stuff in the cloud. Easy peasy. You can then hang your Felt Rainbow for a colorful spring or St. Patrick’s Day Garland or just keep around for a soft and fun decoration.
- felt in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and white
- white thread & sewing needle
- foam/stuffing (old pillow, t-shirts strips, etc)
First, fold over the white piece of felt and cut out a bumpy, wavy circle for the cloud so that you have 2 pieces shaped the same.
Next, cut strips about ½ inch in width of the colors of felt. Fold the strips in half and position on one side of the cloud material until all colors are positioned around. Top with the other piece of the cloud, matching waves/bumps.
With a needle and white thread, begin sewing around the cloud, making sure to sew the strips in place as you go around. Once all strips are sewn in, leave the top open and stuff with a small ball of foam or stuffing. We used the stuffing from an old pillow, but pieces from an old t-shirt or other soft material would work as well. Sew to close and finish with a knot.
Finally, cut the strips of the colors of the rainbow where they’re folded so it’s like a rainbow burst. Attach a string to hang.
