Do you have the bug? The love bug, that is! With our trusty heart paper punch, we had fun making these Popsicle Stick Love Bugs for Valentine’s Day!
Of course, you don’t have to use a heart paper punch. You could also cut out the hearts needed, which would give your Love Bugs each a unique look as no two hearts would be exactly the same shape or size.
For our Love Bugs, though, we punched out 12 hearts from different colored construction paper then glued 11 of them together. Glue your line of hearts on 2 popsicle sticks, add a couple googly eyes, a mouth, and some pipe cleaner legs and you have your very cute bug! With your last heart, punch 2 holes on either side and slide the tips of a pipe cleaner leg through, folding down to hold.
- 2 popsicle sticks
- construction paper in a variety of Valentine’s Day colors
- googly eyes
- red pen
- pipe cleaners
- heart paper punch and/or scissors
- regular small hole paper punch
First, punch or cut out 12 hearts in your colored pieces of paper. Glue 11 of those hearts together towards the top of each, making sure they overlap. Glue your line of hearts onto the 2 pipe cleaners.
Add googly eyes and draw on a smile with your pen.
Glue 3 medium sized pipe cleaners along the back of the popsicle sticks, spaced out. Take your last heart and punch a small hole on both sides. Slide the tips of the first set of pipe cleaner legs through each hole, then fold the pipe cleaner down to secure.
This is a craft that’s fun for all ages. In fact, I’m not a huge fan of bugs, unless they’re Love Bugs!
