When I was a kid, I loved summer break. Those 3 months out of school seemed endless with possibilities, even though most of it was always spent playing with friends and riding my bike. I can still remember the sound of my dad’s riding lawnmower, the scent of freshly cut grass, and a refreshing root beer float at the end of a long, hot day.
Now, while I may be older, summer break still has the same magic. My kids love these 3 months that they can run through the grass barefoot and carefree, and I want to make sure it’s just as special for them. Part of that is carrying on traditions. As such, it’s time to bring out the ice cream and the soda for a delicious float at the end of a long, hot day.
To celebrate the summer of floats, we made sure to pick up mini cans of A&W® along with a 2 liter of Dr Pepper® Cherry during a stop at Target. For the ice cream in our floats, we grabbed Archer Farms ice cream in Banana Almond Caramel and also Peanut Butter Caramel to switch it up, as well as some strawberries and blueberries for a berry patriotic Red White and Blueberry July 4th Ice Cream Float!
A great treat for July 4th, vanilla ice cream would be great in this as well, or a strawberry ice cream. Archer Farms has many delicious flavors to choose from. Feel free to make it your own.
For our Red White and Blueberry July 4th Ice Cream Float, you’re going to need a lot of berries. Rinse off the blueberries and add a handful to the bottom of a glass.
Add 2 large scoops of ice cream. I scream!
Dice up some strawberries and add those to the top. Pour soda until it reaches the top. Since we have a berry, fruity theme, I chose the Dr Pepper® Cherry for our July 4th Ice Cream Float and it was a great choice!
Top with a swirl of whipped cream, patriotic sprinkles, and an easy Star Straw for a true July 4th experience. Don’t forget the spoon!
For the Star Straw, you’re going to need a milkshake straw, blue construction paper or cardstock, scissors and a pencil. Then, simply draw a basic star shape large sized to fit your straw and glasses used. Cut the star out along the outside lines, then fold and snip two lines across the main body to slide the straw through.
Now that’s a way to celebrate summer!
