A Field Trip with 2nd Grade

It has been many years since I’ve been on a school bus.

Many years.

Yesterday, however, for the first time in many years, I boarded a school bus with my son and his 2nd grade class for a field trip to a zoo. Once we got there, the small class was broken into smaller groups. I was responsible for keeping track of my son and two of his friends. Which wasn’t as easy as it sounds since they were excited and liked to run from one exhibit to the next. But, to win them over, I bought them all rainbow sno-cones.

We had a really great time.

In Photographs

I am participating in Momalom’s Five for Five. Today’s topic is on Pictures.

My mother has an album, big and heavy. Spanning years of decades. Polaroids and crinkled corners of film printed pictures from a long time ago of her and my dad before children, then of all of us after. As a little girl, I used to love to study the look of each photograph looking back at me.

My pictures are not as organized. They sit insecurely in envelopes and boxes. Sometimes in a frame lining the wall. Mostly digital, a chaos of folders. Levels of pixelation marking the years like a growth chart as technology advanced. But while the medium is different, the sentiment remains the same.

Missing in Action

My son’s action figures have all lost their heads, and various other body parts.

It’s a sad bunch.
